Flying Polyp

Pound per pound the Polyps are one of the more dangerous creatures of the Lovecraft Mythos. They lay waste to planets are viciously aggressive and destroy whole ecologies. Earth was inhabited by these horrors hundreds of millions of years ago, and they ceaselessly warred against everyone until they themselves were obliterated by competing species such as The Elder Things. Their colonies are routinely large basaltic pillar warrens housing billions, surrounded by sterile volcanic landscape. In these mile high black pillar cities the Polyps may dwell for decades before being roused into activity. These floating elephant sized clouds of ... material... bypass barriers, are almost impossible to kill by cold, heat, chmicla attacks or explosions - but they can be killed by lightning They could exist on venus just as easily as on pluto. They do not communicate - they just hover and pulse in smaller or larger groups and they are extremely versatile in a bewildering array of seemingly magical powers and themselves are massively resistant to magic They can phase into and out of our dimension, and don't seem to use visible technology. Their most used ability is an aerial form of kinesis or thrust that's not dissimilar to the flux used by Cthonians, and it can rip apart armies in a genocidal manner. There seems to be some kind of metaphysical relationship between them and Shoggoths and some researchers have suggested in some strange manner Polyps are a form of "ghost" Shoggoths.
